Texas Center for Arts + Academics (TCA+A) showcased its talents and growth during their inaugural State of TCA+A.
- TCA+A, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the charter holder of two Fort Worth public charter schools, recently hosted an informative meeting to reintroduce themselves to the community.
- Dr. Anika Perkins shared TCA+A’s story of achievements and gratitude within the school systems.
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (June 13th, 2024) – On May 30, 2024, TCA+A organized its inaugural community informational event, the State of TCA+A, at the Hyatt Place Fort Worth/TCU. During her address, Dr. Perkins, the new CEO/President and Superintendent, captivated the audience with a narrative that delved into the charter holder’s origins and its journey to its present achievements. The history of TCA+A traces back to 1946 with the founding of Texas Boys Choir (TBC). In 2001, Texas Boys Choir, Inc. opened Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts (FWAFA) and then in 2007 Texas School of the Arts (TeSA). By 2015, Texas Boys Choir, Inc. underwent a rebranding and changed its name to Texas Center for Arts + Academics, a name that more accurately represents their commitment to promoting artistic excellence and academic achievement. As the sole fine-arts, audition-based charter schools in Fort Worth, FWAFA and TeSA offer students daily exposure to high-quality, fine-arts education in choir, dance, theatre, and visual arts, all seamlessly integrated with and into a rigorous academic curriculum.

Guest speakers shared their responsibilities, achievements, and objectives during the event, conveying their affection for our educational institutions and the advantages they have gained from their association with the TCA+A community. Jessica Wozniak, TeSA PTO President and Allyson Grand, FWAFA PTSO President, discussed the positive impact the schools have had on their children and families. TCA+A’s Development Director, Torie Skinner, discussed past contributions and future goals for the Annual Campaign and the 2024 Gala. And Krista Langford, TCA+A’s Director of Admissions and Community Outreach, shared her personal growth journey within the FWAFA staff and her new involvement in TCA+A’s leadership team, as well as accomplishments and future goals.
Langford said, “The thing I love most about working for TCA+A and our charter schools is the community; that the students, faculty and staff create together. My co-workers have supported me through numerous shifts in responsibility and the students do the same for each other. We know what it means to collaborate and to care for each other.”
Student performances, were of course, the highlight of the event, showcasing a diverse range of our student talent. The renowned TBC Treble Choir presented three pieces from their repertoire, singing in both English and Spanish. Academy Dance Company Trainees filled the stage with graceful movements while musical theatre students Courtney Doucet, Libby Serber, Bailey Morgan, and Kate Portele dazzled onlookers with their acting and singing prowess. And award-winning works of art created by our visual art students adorned the tables as center pieces. It was a visual feast for everyone in attendance.
